Bromelieds Hanging

Bromelieds Hanging

Know your Plant

With their vibrant and long-lasting leaf crown, Bromeliads can do wonders to add an exotic touch to your house. The wide leaves are sword-shaped or scoop-like and grow around a central “cup.” This cup catches water in the plant’s habitat.

What makes bromeliads so special is that most of them bloom only once in their lifetime.

The leaves are often mistaken for flowers. A bromeliad grows by adding new leaves to the center of the plant. Once there is no more room left for any more plants to grow, the bromeliads put all its energy on producing pups, also known as offsets.

Water: Unlike other plants, Bromeliads require watering from the top onto their leaf cups. The soil should be dry and its cup should always contain water. However, make sure the water is not stagnant and replace it whenever needed or every week.

Lighting: Bromeliads make a good low light indoor plant. However, provide it with bright to medium lighting for best growth. Make sure that it does not get into direct sunlight as it can burn its leaves.

Soil: As bromeliads do not pull nutrients from its soil, it is not required. However, if you are potting it with soil, make sure the soil is dry as its roots will rot.
