Common Names: Dudleya edulis, Lady Fingers, Dead Man’s Fingers, San Diego Dudleya

The Dudleya edulis is a perennial succulent native to Southern California and northern Baja California. It features fleshy, cylindrical, pale green leaves that grow vertically, resembling fingers—hence its common names. These leaves can reach up to 8 inches in height and often turn red or orange during the summer heat.
In late spring to early summer, it produces branching clusters of small, white flowers atop slender stems. This drought-tolerant plant is well-suited for rock gardens, containers, or as an ornamental addition to xeriscapes.

The Dudleya edulis is an attractive and low-maintenance succulent, making it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a unique and resilient plant.

Care Guide

Sunlight - Prefers full sun to partial shade. Ensure it receives ample light to maintain its compact form and vibrant leaf coloration.

Watering - Requires minimal watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it’s essential to use well-draining soil. During its semi-dormant period in late summer, reduce watering frequency.
